Youth Conference 7/7-7/11

So I just got back on Saturday from Youth conference. To tell you the truth... I am exhausted!!! We went up by Roosevelt, to some property owned by a guy name Rick Young. This was an awesome place. It is hard to describe it, but on one side of his property he had water (like part of his land bordered a lake, he made a big pond 4' deep and it had posts to play water volleyball, we had canoes up there, jetski's and water tubes and a banana boat. Then there was the central area about 400 yrds away from the water and it was big enough to hold 30 tents, and about 15 trailers and still have plenty of room to have more tents and alot more trailers. Then there is the John Wayne side. It is approx. a 15 min drive back and around to get there or a 5 min drive on 4 wheeler. It has 3 canyons, up one canyon we had the rifle shooting, the next canyon had the archery, the 3rd canyon was the area that our youth built an amplitheater (spelled that wrong). There is also an area that we had the kids repel off of a 65 foot cliff. This whole week we focused on "Believers" whether is was our first believer, a believer in the scriptures, or a believer in our day.

I was stationed at the John Wayne side on Wed. and Thurs. Being that I have first aid and CPR training, I was the medic on that side and a nurse was stationed at central camp. Luckily the only thing I saw those two days were scrapes from repelling and a little dehidration. On Friday I was suppose to go back to that side, but it was so hot over there, my friend Amy and I asked if we could say on the water side. They were just doing the service projects that day, and I thought that there would not be any really accidents because of it. So the nurse went over there because they were using chainsaws to cut the railroad ties for the amplitheatre, and I stayed where they were just clearing a trail with shovels that lead to the lake. Little did I know that my area would be the area with the need for medical help. There was a girl that has some serious health problems, and is on heavy meds for it. Well she took her meds late (an hour or so after she ate.. not good) which caused her to pass out. The YM's President yelled for me to come quick. I jumped on a 4 wheeler and rode to him, and found out that he was carrying her. We threw her on the back and drove back to the medic area. I took her pulse, temp, and tried for 10 mins to wake her up. No luck. I sent Amy on a 4 wheeler to go get the nurse. Finally around 20 mins of trying to cool her body heat down, yelling at her to open her eyes and keeping the rest of the leaders calm, her eyes began to flutter open. However...she still wasn't there, she opened them and then they would roll back into her head. After 25 mins, Bishop Ensign (an Medical Assistant) pulled up, he was sent back by Amy. He took her blood pressure and it too was normal. By about 30 mins from when this all started she could barely speak full sentances. We moved her in to a trailer with a/c and she then slept for 5 1/2 hours. When I talked to her later, she asked how long she was out and she said that when she does pass out it is only for 5 mins or so. It is amazing that I was able to stay calm, cuz then the emotions hit me like a ton of bricks that night.

So then that night (Friday) a little boy named Jayden Rasmussen was baptized in the lake. It was so spiritual. This was the first time that I felt the spirit this whole week. Being a leader, it was none stop go from day one, and we didn't have much time to ourselves. It reminded me and everyone else of when Jesus entered into the river Jordan. That night we had a special Light walk. That too was spiritual, Brothers and Sisters of our ward shared their testimonies with us. Brother Hinckley talked about a special person in his life that gained his testimony while being a P.O.W. Brother Eldredge talked about Christ and how much he does for us. Sister Riggs talked about taking time each day, and meditating and pondering alone at how much Heavenly Father loves us, and those that are around us. Take time, find a quiet place and reflect. Then Sister Rasmussen talked about her experience when she and her husband went inactive because ward members hurt their feelings. She said that it was the darkest time in her life, not having the gospel in it. Then we went through a small cave that was dark with only a flashlight. I went with her father in law, and I was thinking that I need to help him, but he is the one that helped me. For 69 yrs old he sure did have a lot of energy. I thought that he was older than that when he said it (his son is a practical joker so I thought that he would too) and I was shocked that was his age. I guess that I am not good at judging ages, I thought he was as old as my grandpa, like in the 80's. Oops!

We came home on Sat. and then I went to a funeral of a ward members. His name was Keith Ottesen. He was 82 and he fell in his drive way almost 3 weeks ago. He hit his head and had a lot of bleeding in his brain. He slipped into a coma shortly after and never regained conciousness after he had surgury. His family held the funeral so that those up at youth conference could attend. He was a great guy. He was my example of the Believers. He would bear his tesitmony every fast Sunday, and his alway touched my heart and soul. He will be missed.

So this sums up youth conference. I took my camera up there and didn't take any photos. But the good thing is that we each will get a cd with photos on it. I will post them later.

Goin' home

So there was a knock on my door this afternoon. When I answered it, my neighbor Emily was there with her 2 kids. She said that they were in there front yard and they found a baby robin that had fallen out of their tree. She said that it was breathing but not moving. Kaeli and I went over to see.I took a small stick and lightly touched it and it moved. Emily grabbed a ladder and 2 pairs of gloves. She climbed the ladder, and I picked it up and handed it to her so that she could put it in the nest. Then she looked in and said that there were other little bird in the nest. We each took pics of them and then we left them alone. That was our good deed for the day. Hopefully we didn't disturb the nest, (that is why we wore gloves so our scent wouldn't be on the bird) and the mother will come back.

Hired helper

Ok, I occasionally will clean (cleaning is my least favorite thing to do in life )and this day I decided to do the bathrooms. Hayden was out playing with his friends and that left me with Kaeli. I asked her if she wanted to help out and of course she said yes. I put her to work on the mirrors. She had a ball and I must say that there weren't any streaks. She liked cleaning them. The pics below kinda freak me out though. Looking at them makes me freak out a little. Can you imagine 2 Kaeli's in my house??? One is enough for me. But to be honest, she is a cute little stink!

Halloween in June?

I was in my room folding clothes and in walked T-Rex and Stitch. Hayden and Kaeli were playing in the other room when they decided to play dress up. My world today has been as if Stitch and a T-rex had stormed in and trashed everything up. I clean up one mess to find that little stitch has messed up her room and big T-Rex messed up his room. But they are cute none the less.

Camping the last time in this trailer

Ok so we went camping over fathers day weekend. Needless to say that it was really wet. It rained everyday, oops let me refrase that.. it POURED everyday. My dad, Hayden, Kaeli (who had a temp the most of the time) and I went up on Thursday to get us a spot. We went up by Kamas, on Soapstone Basin. Then Friday night, Rog, my mom, Michael, Destiny, Kallianne, Kamashay, Chris & Amanda, and Lyric came up. They brought up their 4 wheelers, and trailer and tent. Saturday morning Scott, Pat and Stefanie came up with 3 more 4 wheelers, followed later by Grandma and Grandpa Nelson. I dumped water like you would not believe. But needless to say that 4 wheeling in the mud is really fun. My mom even drove a 4 wheeler. Yea MOM!!! Come Sunday morning, with the rain and all dripping on to Roger during the night, my dad got up and said, "That is it!! I am selling this trailer and buying a NEW one." So here is a picture of our old trailer, to be followed by a picture of the new one when we get it.
Something funny to add.... Kaeli asked my mom where my grandma Nelsons dog Sami was, my mom said "up with Heavenly Father", Hayden added "and Jesus Christ" Kaeli said "AMEN!"

Chewy

This is our pet gerbil Chewy. We got rid of our rabbit, and ended up getting Hayden's class pet from Kindergarten. He is so cute and very friendly. The only problem is that if you put him on your lap, he will chew your clothes. So if you have any jeans that you want to put holes in to look in fashion, buy the cheap ones and I can assist you in the holes.

Fishin' @ silver lake

For family night we went up to Silver Lake (up AF canyon) with our friends Kolby and Amy. We had a little BBQ and some fun fishing. Here is Hayden reeling in a fish and the being the "MEAN MOM" that I am, I made him hold his catch. He doesn't like to touch the fish, but has no problem eating it.

Caught "wet" handed

Ok I was in the house and Kaeli snuck out to be with Rog while he was cutting the lawn. He knocked on the door and told me to grab my camera. This is what I found when I came out. She said that she was thirsty. It is a good thing that Summer has FINALLY arrived!

Kaeli the Reptile Princess

We were pulling weeds out of my flower bed and came across a snake. Kaeli likes to see bugs and reptiles of all sorts, but will never touch one. I finally got her to hold the snake but only after she put on her gloves. She was really brave but as soon as the photos were done, she quickly handed me the snake.

Grandparents for Dinner

I invited my Grandparents Dick and Barbara down for dinner. I have invited them several times, and they finally made it down. The last time was about 8 months ago. So I took their pics so that I could actually show that they came. Hayden and Roger took my grandpa down to the pond to see it and my grandma stayed with us. They are getting older and it is really hard for her to walk alot. She wants us to catch frogs for her pond.

Parents down for the weekend

We had my parents down for the weekend. They came down to congratulate Hayden on completing Kindergarten. We got a little bored and next thing you know Hayden is putting hair clips on everyone.





Then the kids were acting WILD! And when I say kids.... I mean all the kids! Dad included!

Teacher appreciation week

I am the room mom for Hayden's kindergarten A.M.class (and pm class too, no mom wanted to do it). Next week is teacher appreciation week and I got to decorate the door. I absolutly love Mrs. Barnes, and I think that she is the BEST!! The pictures below are of her door that I just finished decorating. I took Kaeli over to Rog and told him that I would be back in 30 mins. Well the door actually took me 2 hours to decorate. Time flies when you are trying to get everything perfect. Let me know what you think of my creation! Note to self.... have everything already glued on before you go to put it up, it will save you hours of work!!
